Bournville too strong this time !

Monday, November 02, 2009

Solihull 0 – 41 Bournville It was defence all the way as a young Solihull team locked horns with a strong Bournville side containing ex-Bees and Moseley players. A 3rd minute penalty started the scoring, and Bournville experience soon showed as Solihull leaked 2 tries in the first 20 minutes. These early reverses steeled the Solihull defence, and as the home side’s back line was stretched, it took fine last ditch tackles from full back Sean Rai and winger Dino Markou to hold out the visitors. But Bournville would not be denied and further score made it 0 -23 at half time. After the break, the visitor’s strength in the pack set up a good field position and the second half started in similar vein to the first with an early Bournville try. But from this stage on Solihull’s character came to the fore, with the front row of Henderson, Grime and Watton contesting the oppositions scrumming strength and fiercely competing in the loose contributing to long periods of Solihull possession. Directed by side stepping fly half Marc Webb Solihull tried every option to breach the organised Bournville defence, but a loose pass was intercepted by the visitors and touched down in the corner. Solihull pushed again through strong running second row Liam Dunne and number eight Hughes, but the visitors broke free and it was only when wing Phil Preston clattered Bourneville’s Tongan centre with the tackle of the match that the visitors attack was broken down. Solihull pushed to find the score they richly deserved, but it was Bournville who had the last say, as their Tongan centre recovered from Preston’s earlier attention and touched down under the sticks to finish the contest.
